We have the pleasure to inform you that we have released the Add-On tool for the Excel Soccer World Cup 2010 Planner. The tool includes features for exporting and importing the user and prediction data, a function for transferring data from previous planner versions and a the possibility to query our server for the game results during the world cup. A help file for the planner and the Add-In is also included; we have also mapped the help file on our server at help.excel-soccer-2010.de. The planner, the tool for the planner and additional informations can be found on our site www.en.excel-soccer-2010.de. And last but not least, the planner is now available in more languages (Dutch, Portuguese, Portuguese for Brazil, Russian and Serbian). Thanks to all translators.

After the great success of our free Excel Soccer World Cup 2010 Planner for the Soccer World Cup in South Africa this year with over 380,000 downloads and the great feedback, referrals and links from companies, bloggers and individuals, we feel happy to announce the Excel Soccer Woman’s World Cup 2011 Planner. The Woman’s World Cup takes place in Germany and will start on 06/26/2011 at 18:00 in Berlin with the match between Germany and Canada.

We are planning for the next version of the Excel Planner an improved user interface with a modified design and new features suggested by our users. Of course, we will also create a new dedicated website for the planner. And, as for the World Cup 2010, the planner will be at least released in German, English and French.

PS: for those who are unfamiliar with the planner, the website www.en.excel-soccer-2010.de is still online and the version for the last soccer World Cup can be downloaded from there.

If like to contribute to the project, for example helping us to translate the planner or contribute in another ways, please just drop us an e-mail to the adress provided on the imprint page of this blog or leave a comment to this post.

Some of you have probably heard of our Excel Soccer World Cup 2010 Planner for the soccer world cup this year in South Africa; a conjoint project of my friends and me. I had recently announced an additional Excel VBA tool for the planner, which will, for example, be able to import and export predictions from the prediction game or send queries to a web server.

Now I had the idea to involve all interested people in the development of this tool by writing articles, how choosen features are implemented in this tool. I will also present parts of the code and at the the end of this series of articles I will write a post resuming the other posts.

This article starts with presenting a solution how to write custom tooltips using VBA. The following screenshot shows a sample of these tooltips from the options dialog in Word 2010. When you move the mouse cursor over the icons containing a small “i”, a text explaining the function of the setting appears.

We are pleased to announce the release of the next version 3.0 of the Excel Soccer – the Soccer World Cup and Championship Planner – on April 23th, 2012.

The new version is a complete redesign and development from scratch, including a new user interface and a new navigation. New internal structures should also contribute to an increase in speed. Additionally, there will be no more single files for each language, but all the translations can be found in the same file. We are planning a short test phase after the release, so that if errors will be found, we can fix them in time before the European Championship. The Add-on tool will be released after the planner.

I have moved all my domains, which are related to the Excel Soccer, to a more performant server. The websites have also been rebuild and reorganized and, we hope so, welcome the visitors with a more modern interface. Please note, that the websites are currently in progress, so there may be some missing content here and there. By the way, I am using a multi-site installation of WordPress for all sites, allowing me a comfortable and flexible management of the templates and plug-ins at a global level, and much more.

In addition to the main domain www.excel-soccer.de for the Excel Soccer, I created a subdomain for each language (German, English and French):

All other domains I used the last years are now redirecting to the domains mentionned before. Although the obsolete domains will remain active for a while, please update your bookmarks and favorites as soon as possible.

Last but not least, I have set up a forum for the Excel Soccer with three subforums for each language. The Excel Soccer Forum – forum.excel-soccer.de serves as primary point of contact for questions, support and help around the Excel Soccer. Please note, that the forums itself also supports the three languages.

Some people who had supported us during the World Cup 2010 have already contacted us and offered their support, for example translations, for the next version. At this point, our big thanks.

We are happy to announce that we have released on 03/01/2010 the next version 1.50 Build 010310 of our freeware Excel Soccer World Cup 2010 Planner. The Excel file can be downloaded on its website www.en.excel-soccer-2010.de. The new versions includes now a chart for the prediction game and a sheet for userr defined settings. The image below shows a screenshot for the charts sheet.
