Microsoft has recently released the “Group Policy for Microsoft Office 2010” E-Book. The book is available for download as a Word, PDF or XPS document. The target groups are primarily IT professionals, consultants and administrators. The book is explaining on 259 pages the meaning and use of group policies and gives tips on planning and configurating Office 2010 deployements. Links to additional information are also provided.

The chapters in the book include an overview of Group Policy and Office 2010, plans for accessibility and security by using Group Policy, plans for Outlook 2010 and SharePoint deployements and of course information how to customize Office 2010 and its components by using Group Policy. The last chapter contains a technical reference about the used tools and administration templates.

I am currently testing Drupal, a very mature and flexible content management system. Drupal is currently available in the stable version 6.19, which should be used for production systems. Drupal 7, which is currently in beta 3, brings a lot of new features and is definitely worth a test.

In preparation for moving my websites to Drupal, I had already installed some Drupal 6.x test systems on my 1&1 (German Internet Provider) dedicated managed server. The installation is not quite trivial on their servers, but you can find some good tutorials for Drupal 6 on the web. Yesterday I tried to install Drupal 7 on my server and I was about to despair if I had not found the following tip related to Piwik, a PHP web analysis software.

As a fan of the ideas and tools of Microsoft FUSE Labs, I registered for an e-mail invitation to participate in the beta test for the new social network so.cl some time ago. Although I had not recieved an invitation, I was fortunately able to take a closer look to the platform two days ago, as I got an invitation from a friend via Facebook.

I have started to migrate all my domains to a new server. This project will probably take some time, especially as I have to move about 50 domains and my time is currently limited. In addition, the move is also an opportunity for me to clean up the sites.

My Excel Formula Translator is already available under its “true” addresses www.excel-translator.de and www.excel-translator.com. Although I will keep the subdomain translator.excel-ticker.de for a while, I recommend to update your bookmarks.

The next steps will be the migration and/or relaunch of the Excel Soccer website, the Office365 Forum and the Excel Ticker itself. During the migration the domains, I work with mirrors of the sites, so I hope to ensure that all domains are reachable and the normal operation will not be affected.

The year could really not have begun more beautiful. A few minutes ago, a mail from Microsoft arrived in my mailbox, informing me that I have been awarded with the MVP Award 🙂

I would like to take this moment to thank Microsoft for the award and also thank my family and all my friends, readers for their support and encouragement.

The Known Universe takes viewers from the Himalayas through our atmosphere and the inky black of space to the afterglow of the Big Bang. The film, created by the American Museum of Natural History is part of an exhibition, Visions of the Cosmos: From the Milky Ocean to an Evolving Universe, at the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan through May 2010. Just enjoy.

This article has also been published on the German Version of the Excel Ticker blog.
